Hi Folks, has anyone else noticed an increase in the use of chewing gum since the ban? We have with more gum being found under chairs, tables, picture frames, carpet and other places.
Perhaps a medical person can confirm this, but isn't human saliva a medium for transmission of some serious deseases? |

Havent noticed any increase in chewing gum but at our last pubwatch meeting (last week) the challenge of increased use of drugs and other illegal substances on licenced premises was raised - a distinct possibility in some premises _________________ Peter Eveleigh |

An oldie but a goldie! Not gum related, but another non-smoking hazard - in New Scientist they do a regular column titled 'This week 50 years ago' featuring an old article. This week's is titled Fat Smokers Beware and is about weight gain for smokers who quit, average 9 lbs. Quote:
"Because obesity is harmful and undoubtedly increaes the expectation of life in middle-aged people, those who give up smoking face an unexpected new hazard. It may well be that the benefit people secure by reducing their liability to lung cancer is subsequently wiped out by the alternative harm of becoming overweight." _________________ "There is no reason why good cannot triumph as often as evil. The triumph of anything is a matter of organization. If there are such things as angels, I hope that they are organized along the lines of the Mafia." ~ Kurt Vonnegut |

My wife and I visited a long and well established pub on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, not far from the castle. This was last Saturday night around 8PM. We have used this pub many times in the past and it was always ?heaving?. On this occasion, it was almost empty. On asking the barman why? - no prizes for his answer.
However, although the pub was quite clean, a casual glance at the carpets shocked us by the number of in-trodden pieces of used gum. Absolutely filthy, they will never be able to clean them. That?s progress! |
